Embodied and Embedded Mindfulness and Compassion Framework (EEMCF)

The MMRL is focused on developing and validating a new framework on mindfulness and compassion: The Embodied and Embedded Mindfulness and Compassion Framework (EEMCF).

This unique framework conceptualizes, operationalizes, and applies mindfulness and compassion as specific, yet distinct embodied (body-based and mind-body connected) and embedded (contextually grounded) trainable skills/abilities.

Unlike traditional approaches, EEMCF integrates:

  • Embodied (intrapersonal) mindfulness

  • Interpersonal mindfulness

  • Self-compassion

  • Compassion for other humans

  • Compassion for animals

  • Connection with nature

Specific practices targeting each of these domains can be found in the article published in Mindfulness.

Implementing the EEMCF

  • First Step: This article marks the first step toward implementing the EEMCF in clinical settings.

  • Additional Publications: The lab has published a number of additional studies about the framework.

  • Validated Measures: The MMRL has also developed and validated measures for each component of EEMCF.

  • Proposed Program: The MMRL has proposed a 10-week program that integrates EEMCF strategies. The lab is currently investigating the effectiveness of this program.
